Terry Caton, of Londis Chatsworth Road in Chesterfield, has created a free same-day delivery service to ensure that the vulnerable and elderly have access to essentials, throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
Mr Caton created the service when over 70’s and the vulnerable were asked to self-isolate.
Mr Caton initially asked local residents if they would be willing to offer their support to ensure that the store could offer the free delivery service.
Within 48 hours, the store was “overwhelmed by the response from the local people, both online and in store, willing to offer their support”.
The delivery service covers the Ashgate, Brampton, Brookside, Holymoorside, Sommersall and Walton area, with potential support for those just outside of the area.
Mr Caton said: “The local support has been fantastic. After asking for volunteers to help with the free delivery service, the response was overwhelming.
“I was inspired to create the service when I thought of my mum. She’s over 70 and I know how much support she’ll need.
“We, as a local store, have a responsibility to look after the vulnerable and give back to those that have supported us.
“We’ve taken a number of precautions to ensure the safety of our employees and customers, such as no cash payments and social distance regulations.
“In comparison to supermarkets – who have extremely long waiting lists for deliver services – our delivery service is same-day.”
Due to the amount of support, the store has also extended their Post Office services.
Elderly and vulnerable local residents of Londis Chatsworth Road, who wish to use the delivery service, can contact the store on 01246 568871
