Below is the latest information from the Metropolitan Police regarding the arrangements to mark the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Thursday 15th September (Day +6)

Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin has recently been taken in procession to Westminster Hall where Her late Majesty will Lie-In-State from 5pm today until the 6:30am on the day of the State Funeral on Monday 19th September 2022.

Practical details on attending the Lying-in-State are available on the Parliament website. During this time, there will be restricted vehicle access to St James’ and Green Parks and Parliament Square environs. Parliament Square will be closed to all vehicles.

Depending on the size of the queue, further spontaneous vehicular closures may occur in Victoria Embankment and Westminster Bridge Road.

Rehearsals will take place tonight from around 11pm until the early hours of Thursday. This will result in a period where all vehicle access is prohibited. Specific details of these closures and the timings will be communicated in a subsequent bulletin later on this evening.

Delivery Access

We are aware of challenges with vehicle access for commercial deliveries in some areas of the footprint last night. To ensure access tomorrow morning, deliveries should aim for 7am arrival.

Please brief drivers to be prepared for security checks. Please ensure that delivery drivers have photographic identification, a delivery note or other official paperwork and a point of contact at their delivery hub to verify and validate their access.

Look Forward

Presently our planning is based upon the following expected events, however this is subject to change.

Friday 16th  (Day +7)

Her Majesty will lie-in-state in Westminster Hall with vehicular restrictions in the environs of Parliament Square for the entire day.

The existing restrictions on vehicular traffic in the St James’ and Green Parks area will resume.

Saturday 17th (Day +8)

Her Majesty will lie-in-state in Westminster Hall with vehicular restrictions in the environs of Parliament Square for the entire day.

The existing restrictions on vehicular traffic in the St James’ and Green Parks area will resume.

Sunday 18th (Day +9)

Her Majesty will lie-in-state in Westminster Hall with vehicular restrictions in the environs of Parliament Square for the entire day. It is likely further vehicular road closures will begin in Victoria, Whitehall and the Mall in preparation for the State Funeral on Monday

Foreign Heads of State and dignitaries will arrive in London and we expect spontaneous restrictions of vehicular and some pedestrian traffic in and around the Park Lane, Mayfair and Kensington areas.

Monday 19th (Day +10)

The State Funeral will take place in Westminster Abbey followed by a cortege to Windsor Castle travelling via Wellington Arch. We expect considerable vehicular road closures throughout central London coupled with more limited vehicular closures in West London.

We are aware of the keen interest in more information surrounding this stage of the plans. As soon as information is available, it will be communicated.
