The NFRN was saddened to hear about the death of former Clacton Branch treasurer Don Ernest New, who died peacefully in Colchester General Hospital on Monday 26 August 2019 aged 88.

In 1996, Don and his wife Sylvia moved from St Albans in Hertfordshire down to Clacton-on-Sea in Essex where they opened a newsagents. The Shop, D E & S NEW, was in Recreation Road directly opposite the entrance to Vista Road Recreation Ground. Having lost Sylvia in 1993, Don continued to run the shop on his own until he retired in September 1996.

Don was treasurer of the then Clacton Branch of the NFRN between 1989 and 1996.

A funeral service will take place at Colchester Crematorium on Thursday 12 September 2019 at 1.15 pm, after which refreshments will be served at The Old Siege House Bar and Brasserie, East Street, Colchester CO1 2TX.

The NFRN’s thoughts and sympathies are with Don’s family and friends at this time.

Our thanks go to Don’s son Adrian for providing the above details.
