In a further step to assist members facing severe financial hardship during the coronavirus, the NFRN has re-established a partnership with Commercial Plus.

Throwing a lifeline to members, free invaluable advice will be available to those who are struggling to pay their rent or mortgages or who are unable to make repayments on loans or maintain payments on finance agreements for shop refits, chillers and vehicles.

One hour’s free help is available through the free Commercial Plus helpline but the company can potentially speak to landlords, banks and HMRC on members’ behalf.

Commercial Plus managing director Barry Frost: “I am really excited to be working alongside the NFRN again, and believe that during these unprecedented times that there are a range of services that I can offer help to members, particularly those who are facing immediate financial distress.

“It is important that members contact us as soon as they realise that they are undergoing financial difficulty, so that we can take action straight away.

“We currently specialise in three key areas of financial distress: issues with landlords, banking and finance agreements.

“All of the high street banks and all finance companies have support packages in place and we are able to advise members exactly what they need to do to access that help.

“We will also speak to landlords and banks directly, should the situation require it.”

Whilst the Commercial Plus helpline is available 24 hours a day throughout the coronavirus pandemic, the service is currently extremely busy.  However, Commercial Plus guarantees that they will call all members that are in need back within 24 hours.

When the coronavirus crisis is over, Commercial Plus can assist with many things, such as advising on store refits and any property issues.

NFRN National President Stuart Reddish added:

“The Federation exists to provide as much help and advice as possible to members.  Through no fault of their own, many independent retailers are finding trading incredibly difficult during the coronavirus pandemic. We are delighted to be working once again with Barry Frost and Commercial Plus.”
