The News Media Association, the trade body which represents national and regional newspaper publishers, has issued the following statement:
When national and global challenges such as the coronavirus pandemic arise, news media has a vital role to play in ensuring the public receive important, accurate and up to date information.
Publishers are working with stakeholders across the supply chain to develop and implement contingency plans to minimise any disruption to normal service.
In addition, we hope that government will take all necessary steps to ensure that news media businesses are able to continue to perform the essential service of keeping the public informed as the situation develops.
