Retailers are reminded that the duty rate on all tobacco products increased on Monday (November 16).

As well as an increase of 2% above Retail Price Index (RPI) inflation on all tobacco products, the duty on hand-rolling tobacco has risen by an additional 4%, to 6%.

A statement on the government website says: “The government is committed to maintaining high tobacco duty rates as this is an established tool to reduce smoking prevalence and to ensure that tobacco duties continue to contribute to government revenues.”
