From today (September 1), the Health Lottery has raised the age to play to 18 plus.

Letters explaining the move are being sent out and new point of sale material with the new age limit is being provided.

The Health Lottery said the age limit was being raised “to improve player protection and to align with the National Lottery.”

In the letter, compliance manager Jonathan Pannaman explains the steps that are now required to be taken to ensure that Health Lottery retailers are compliant.

This includes replacing the A4 Retailer Licence and/or sticker version, updating tills to 18+ for ticket sales and prize claims and training staff to ask for ID for any customers they believe to be under 18.

Another key change later this month sees the Health Lottery doubling some of its prizes.  From September 19, a player with two balls and a bonus ball will win £10; three balls will mean a £20 win and three balls plus bonus ball wins £100.
