Forget that star-spangled banner, this July 4 we are celebrating independent retailers.

Independents’ Day UK, in partnership with Local Rewards, is a campaign that supports independent retail businesses across the UK.

Over the weekend of July 4, Independents’ Day UK is asking customers to ‘pledge a few pounds’ to support their local independent retailers.

The NFRN has been listed as one of Independents’ Day UK’s supporters alongside Maybe* Tech, Association of Town & City Management, and The IRC.

According to their website, if every adult in the UK spent just £3 at an indie retailer over the Independents’ Day Weekend on July 3 and 4, it would add around £153 million to the sector or around £750 per retailer over the weekend.

National President, Stuart Reddish said: “Throughout the pandemic, independent retailers have shown remarkable resilience and innovation to keep their businesses going and to ensure that their customers were watered, fed, and safe in their stores.

“Independents’ Day gives everyone – shop owners and customers alike – the opportunity to celebrate the fact that small is beautiful, to commemorate the terrific efforts that independent stores went to in serving the public throughout the past 16 months and to ensure that independent retailers remain the beating hearts of their communities for months and years to come.”
