A petition relating to the protection of retail workers which received more than 100,000 signatures, will be debated by MPs on the evening of Monday June 7.
The debate will be led by MP and Petitions Committee member Matt Vickers. MPs from all parties are expected to take part, and a minister will respond on behalf of the government.
The petition , which received 104,354 signatures, states:
Enact legislation to protect retail workers. This legislation must create a specific offence of abusing, threatening or assaulting a retail worker. The offence must carry a penalty that acts as a deterrent and makes clear that abuse of retail workers is unacceptable.
