The sale of knives is already covered by the requirements of an age restricted product, requiring retailers to check the age of the customer before completing the sale.
The Offensive Weapons Act 2019 tighten up requirements with regard to knives and bladed items, including screwdrivers and similar items, that are delivered or subject to click and collect.
Once the Act fully commences, parcels containing these items will be marked and subject to age checks upon delivery / collection.
We do not currently have a start date for the Offensive Weapons Act, but late 2021 is anticipated. This page will be updated when the government announced the commencement date for the Act.
We will also update this page with the relevant guidance and training materials, as they become available.
