Smiths News have released a letter update on the Coronavirus.

“24 March 2020

Dear Customer,

By now, most of you will be aware of the statement from the Prime Minister and the Government’s instruction that we should all remain at home, other than for essential shopping and travelling to and from a place of work, where working from home isn’t an option.

Newsagents, food and convenience stores, post offices and forecourt shops are among the small number of retail outlets that can remain open for business.

Smiths News will continue to distribute newspapers and magazines to you. We are proud to be keeping the country supplied and connected during such a difficult time and believe there is an important part for us all to play in supporting you and the local communities that you serve.

NFRN National President Stuart Reddish said:

“It has been confirmed that newsagents, post offices and forecourt shops can remain open after tonight and that our members can continue to offer a lifeline delivery service as Mr Johnson instructed people to only go out for essentials and to use delivery services wherever necessary.”

  • Use to carry out your normal transactions such as making alterations, claims etc. This is the most effective way to manage your account
  • Do not call the customer services number unless it is for a serious distribution issue as we are instructing the staff not to accept issues such as order changes
  • If you need to close your store temporarily then contact us on and we will deal with this request. Please note that your store will be placed on an initial 4 week temporary closure you will need to include your preferred store closure date and a mobile/home contact number for contacting you in order to arrange re-opening of your store
  • No transactions that could be completed in another way are being accepted over the phones, this is to ensure the service is available for those most in need

Thank you for your continued support and patience during this unprecedented period of time for our country,

Simon Gage

Publisher and Retailer Services Director”
