French company, Française des Jeux, to take over Ireland’s National Lottery

Yesterday, it was announced that, subject to approval, the French company Française des Jeux would be buying the shares of the Irish National Lottery operator, Premier Lotteries Ireland DAC (PLI).

Française des Jeux is the current operator of the French National Lottery.

Please note that the National Lottery would still be owned by the State for the benefit of Good Causes, regulated by the Regulator of the National Lottery, and operated by PLI.

This transaction will not affect any contractual agreements between retailers and the National Lottery, including bonuses or commissions paid.

The Chair of Premier Lotteries, Vivienne Jupp, said that “PLI has moved from strength to strength since winning the licence for the Irish National Lottery.

I would like to thank Ontario Teachers’ and An Post for their support in building PLI into a leading European operator in the period since 2014.”

The Fed and its members look forward to working with Française des Jeux and the National Lottery now and into the future in Ireland.
