The Fed has welcomed news in the recent King’s Speech that energy brokers and third-party intermediaries will now be regulated following a campaign the Fed has supported along with Labour backbencher, Sarah Edwards MP, the Startup Coalition and several other trade bodies.  Inclusion in the King’s Speech indicates the Government intends to legislate on the matter, but the Fed has promised to continue collaborating with those involved in the campaign to ensure the matter becomes law as soon as possible.

In February, Fed member and South East London retailer, Kaual Patel, spoke to a meeting of MPs and trade representatives in Parliament about the way in which complexity and uncompetitive practices made it difficult for small businesses like his to negotiate fair energy price: https://thefedonline.com/ur/news/the-fed-in-parliament-to-back-calls-for-greater-transparency-to-help-control-high-energy-costs-for-business/ at the launch of the TNT “Trust and Transparency” campaign.

Hetal Patel said: “This is clearly a tough time for retailers because of the growing spectre of rising energy costs coming down the pipeline. However, this is a big milestone for a very positive and useful initiative and the Fed plans to continue to supporting this campaign after signing the TNT Charter, earlier this year.”
